Green Lakes State Park

Dave's Tips

Green Lakes has two areas. Rollin Hills and Pinewoods. Rollin Hills is a somewhat open slightly hilly open area more suited to tents. There are some perimeter sites however that are more shaded and suitable for those with trailers that prefer an electric site. Check out site 116, 118, 120, 122, 124, 126 and 128. They are fairly flat, at least partially shaded with a decent pad.

The Pinewoods loop is a popular area for those with trailers. Half is wooded while the other half has been redesigned for full hookups. This area is now very open although new trees have been planted. P1-P30 are now full hookup. This area of Pinewoods is very open and with paved driveways/pads and manicured lawn space. It will feel more like an RV park although there is good separation between sites.

The other half of the Pinewoods loop is well wooded with lots of shaded sites. All are electric. This area provides the best options for the typical camper and would be less crowded then the Rollin Hills area, especially on a busy weekend.

The Green Lakes beach and lake area is beautiful! Due to the sensitive nature of both the Green and Round Lakes, no outside/private boats, kayaks, or canoes are allowed. Rowboat and kayak rentals are available Memorial Day - Labor Day at the Boat House, weather permitting.

The beach is one of the nicest of any State/DEC campground in NY although I imagine it can get overly packed on summer weekends.

The hike around the two lakes is a must! The lakes are unusual in that their green color is a result of high levels of calcium carbonate and not phytoplanktoon or algae that often give lakes a green appearance when their populations are high. There are many other trails in the park to explore.
