Spring is Here... Welcome back Bambi! PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 28 April 2007

Spring is finally here! Picked up our Bambi from storage. All was dry and no issues. Luckily I had brought my notebook along to get the connections to the battery correct. There is that extra black wire which I wasn't sure if it was a ground wire, or a wire to the front jack. Probably it is the front jack feed.

Saturday, 28 October 2006

Well our Bambi is off to indoor storage.

We've had 3 days to enjoy driveway camping, explore our Bambi, take measurements and drink a few bottles of wine.

Here are some photos and a video slideshow of our 40 Winker taking during our short 3 days of ownership...

We'll see you in the spring Bambi!

New Airstream Owners! PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 25 October 2006

We'll after the delay, and another delay we finally picked up our Airstream today.

We originally ordered our Bambi on July 16th, so its been 101 days from order to delivery, thats 3 1/2 months! More than we anticipated but what can you do.

Our dealer didn't do one thing,,, not a $.01 towards trying to make up for all the delays after we spend so much to have everything in time for some fall camping, and here we only had 3 days before the Airstream had to be taken over to the storage facility.

We paid way to much for hitch and controller as well, just to have it 'dealer installed'. Full price on the install too. No points for our dealer!

Hopefully they will come through on service at some point... we shall see...

Anyways we are happy Airstream owners finally!

Pulled Teeth - We're Good to Go! PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 13 September 2006

Skipping all the details of over a week trying to buy this Yukon... wow I could write a book about this event! LOL

Anyways we FINALLY own the Yukon after freting for several days, and having to rent a car in the meantime.

So we're all set.. now time to research a hitch and wait for our Bambi to arrive?

NOT!

Same day we take ownership of our Yukon, we get a call from our Airstream dealer that our Bambi is going to be late!

Can you imagine after just spending money to upgrade our tow vehicle, now we are faced with not having our trailer until the very end of camping season... shhhhhh*t... we could have done this all next spring!

Oh well... we should have anticipated something like this might happen....

Pulling Teeth and Selling Our Jeep PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 03 September 2006

Well our 'test drive' went well! We are pretty sure this is the tow vehicle for us. Sure it has a LOT of miles on it, but it is in great shape and the price is reasonable.

BUT!

It's like pulling teeth trying to buy this SUV, but we are pretty sure we'll have a deal in a few days.

Anyways, the funny part....

One of Kate's best friend comes up to visit and after a few glasses of margaritas, Kate has her sold on purchasing our Jeep! LOL

It was luck really... she had been in the market for such a vehicle. Needless to say a few days later we had our Jeep sold in short order!

Now we are in a bit of a fix.. we don't own a vehicle at all!

Wednesday, 23 August 2006

We'll we've been shopping around... mainly researching every possible on the net.. and test driving a variety of vehicles.

I test drove a few options... Dodge Durango... nnnnoope... 'I don't like that'.

Chevy Avalanche... LOL.. what a honkin truck!

Ok we are definately not truck people...

Chevy Tahoe... mmmm... nope.

We'll today we found a potential perfect vehicle! A 2003 GMC Yukon with a V8, 116" wheelbase and 7,400lb towing capacity. We schedule a test drive for Friday...

Tow Vehicle Shopping PDF Print E-mail

Ever make a decison and miss out on something BIG?

Well thats were we are at....

After researching on the Airstream Forum, I'm realizing that our Jeep Liberty just isn't going to cut it to tow a 4,000 lb trailer!

True, the Liberty is capable of towing 5,000 lbs, but once you account for driver, passanger and all that gear, we would be pushing the Jeep to its maximum, leaving little safety margin. Not only that, but the Jeep has a short 104" wheelbase, which is much to short for pulling a travel trailer like this. Seriously we need a V8, more wheelbase and a wider stance truck or large SUV.
