The New York State Campground Photo (NYSCP) project is committed to providing the most comprehensive and current photo guide for campgrounds within the state. Our dedicated team works year-round to not only maintain the accuracy of the photos, but also to introduce new features and improvements.

With the launch of NYSCP2.0 in May 2021, we introduced a range of new features, including the 'BaseCamp Accounts' feature. As a BaseCamp member, you have access to all photos, a personalized home page, the ability to save your favorite campgrounds and campsites, private and public notes, high-resolution 2.5X zoom, photo archives, and as a FREE BONUS: near real-time updates on campsite cancellations.

We have also significantly expanded our photo database. We have gone from 90,000 photos prior to BaseCamp to 126,500 photos in April 2023, an increase of 40%. New photos are now available for 32 of New York's most popular campgrounds, with 12,000 more photos to be processed for an additional 9 popular campgrounds by spring 2023, bringing the total number of photos in the NYSCP database to 130,000, covering 95 campgrounds.

EDIT: As of Apr 17, 2024 BaseCamp now includes 161,000 photos covering 97 campgrounds.

Spring Photo Shoot 2023 Results  

After a grueling 22 day photo shoot trip we now have new full set high resolution photos to process for 15 popular campgrounds! As well we still have new photos from 2022 to process for 7 additional campgrounds

Campgrounds (2023) - 31,500 Photos

Cedar Point, Coles Creek, Fair Haven Beach (Drumlin Loop), Forked Lake (half), Golden Beach, Hamlin Beach (Loops B, D, E, F), Little Sand Point, Robert H Treman, Robert Moses, Rogers Rock, Sampson, Saranac Lake Islands (Weller Pond, Middle Saranac and some of Lower Saranac), Taughannock Falls, Verona Beach, Watkins Glen.

Campgrounds (2022) - 8,200 Photos

Bowman Lake, Brown Tract Pond, Caroga Lake, Chenango Valley, Golden Hill, Kring Point (off water sites), Northampton Beach (some watersites).

Processing these photos will begin in the early fall and be completed by the New Year or early 2014.

We now have a more extensive categorization feature for watersites. Rather than just having sites specified as either 'watersite' or 'off water' we now breakdown the old 'watersites' into Ultra Prime Waterfront, Prime Waterfront, Waterfront, Prime Water Access Only, and Water Access Only.

Finish Coding Watersites for Enhanced Categories
So far only 35% of NYS watersites are coded. Major watersite campgrounds to code are Fish Creek, Lewey Lake, Moffitt Beach, Wellesley Island, Eighth Lake, Lake Durant, Lake Harris and many others. Currently working on Fish Creek.

User Uploadable Campsite Photos
BaseCamp members will be able to upload their own photos of campgrounds and individual campsites to share with others as a supplement to the campsite guide.
Walkabout Campsite Review Forms
Customize a walkaround campground campsite review form. Print them, mark them up as you case out sites at the campground and then later upload your review/notes into BaseCamp. No more worrying about lost notes!

Revamped User Experience and Design (New UX/UI)
To date, our primary focus has been on providing high-quality content on the site, while neglecting to prioritize the user experience. We recognize the importance of ensuring that the site is easy to navigate and interact with, and that the overall design is modern and visually appealing. As such, we are planning to redesign the site, making necessary adjustments and improvements to enhance the overall usability and visual appeal of the site.

Add Hither Hills to the NYSCP Database
Although we don't have photos of Hither Hills, by adding the campground (along with the site list) to the NYSCP database we will then be able to add Hither Hills to the list of campgrounds monitored for cancellations.
Ensure All Amenity Photos are Coded
A lot of photos of amenities are not code yet. Once coded they will be available to view on the Quick Peek and Hilite Photos pages.
