Campsite Cancellations Users Guide

The aim of the Campsite Cancellation feature on this website in conjunction with the NYSCC (New York State Campsite Cancellation) Facebook Group is to provide BaseCamp campers with tools to help them with booking campsites, especially this year with so many campers going into 2022 without reservations and so many of the popular campgrounds already booked up. These features serve as an alternative to spending hours searching on Reserve America for availability and watching for cancellations. These tools include:

1. Easy access to current cancellations for the most popular campgrounds
2. A sophisticated user friendly query tool for advanced visual searching of campsite cancellations
3. Posting and access to the last 48 hours of cancellations
4. Posting of cancellation alerts for key campsites on the New York State Campsite Cancellation group, aka the NYSCC Facebook Group.

It is important to understand that the Campsite Cancellations feature should be considered a 'First Alert' system. The purpose is to find and post cancellations as they happen. It does not go back and continually reassess each cancellation to see if the site was rebooked. If you see a cancellation that you wish to rebook and you click on the 'Book Cancellation' button only to find some or all of the cancelled dates are no longer available then consider that someone else was interested in the site as well and simply beat you to rebooking it.

A key component of the Campsite Cancellation feature is the ability for campers themselves to be able to post campsites that they plan to cancel so they can offer them to other campers and subsequently arrange a time to do a handover on Reserve America. As well they can post requests for cancellations that hopefully another camper can fullfill. These two important features will be fully implemented once we have Facebook Credentials working. More on that in the very near future.

Campsite Cancellations also aims to introduce BaseCamp campers to alternative campground and campsites that they may have not considered before. With cancellations being posted continually on BaseCamp, campers are visually introduced to a variety of campsites that they are not familiar with and often end up booking these sites.

Various statistics are provided as well to identify site availabity based on equipment size and number of days available. More stats are forecoming including weekend vs midweek availability, watersite availability and more.

Note! For first alerts on high demand watersites, sites with hookups, holiday cancellations and direct links into the reservation website be sure to Sign Up for a BaseCamp Account!

What Campgrounds Are Being Monitored?

These popular campgrounds are typically at/near capacity already for summer weekends. Most also have high demand watersites, sites with waterview and/or electric or full hookups.

How to Use the Cancellations Features

  1. Firstly Join the Cancellation Group on Facebook so you can keep abreast of the latest updates on site cancellations and to view cancellation summaries posted everyday, all day.
  2. To skim through todays cancellations use the Last 24Hrs tab. You can use the 'Refresh' button to refresh the list. This is the easiest way to watch the daily cancellations.
  3. Use the Setup Filters tab to edit up to 5 custom filters for alerting you of cancellations that match all your site and date criteria.
  4. The MAP tab is currently disabled but a new cancellation map will be available in the near future.
  5. Use the New Cancellation/Offer tab to submit your own newly cancelled site or to offer a site you intend on cancelltion to another camper. There is still some work still to be done to integrate your cancellation offers with Facebook Credentials to allow you to communicate with others. This should be ready in the near future.
